Inspirational Women: Aditi Misra | Principal at Delhi Public School, Sec 45, Gurgaon

Aditi

Tell us about yourself, your background and what you do currently

I am Aditi Misra . I am an army officer’ daughter and have received early education in several schools across the country! The last six years were spent in one school – DPS RK Puram. I am a student of Humanities in school and did a BA and MA in History from Delhi University. College was LSR and Masters from Arts Faculty. I am married to a Doctor and have two grown up children , both working in UK. I have been teaching at DPS since 1985… almost 32 years! I began my journey at DPS RK Puram, my alma mater. Subsequently I moved to DPS Vasant Kunj and then to DPS Gurgaon as Principal. My greatest wish and dream is to create an environment and system whereby every child of our country gets a good education. It seems to be tough but it is possible!

Tell us about any current projects or initiatives you wish to promote and your greatest achievement?

Our school DPS Gurgaon runs a school for underprivileged children in the afternoon shift. We follow the Open School curriculum here. This school has 1500 children now!
It gives me a deep sense of satisfaction and achievement when children from severely marginalised backgrounds come to us to study and we see a transformation on them in a few months !

What has been your biggest challenge in achieving your success?

I can’t think of any specific challenge but at times interference in the running of an independent school by external agencies can be problematic.

If you weren’t doing what you do now, what would you be doing?

I really can’t imagine doing anything else that being in the company of children! I truly love what I do! But perhaps I would have been a writer!

Who has been your biggest inspiration?

I have two people who inspire me – personally my Mother who is a very strong and brave lady. My professional inspiration is my ex teacher    – the iconic Dr Shayama Chona. She is India’s  most celebrated Principal but she remains grounded and committed!

What does the future hold for you?

I am not sure what the future holds. But I’m sure it’ll be beautiful! I’ve sown seeds of love and respect wherever I was … the time is now that I will hopefully harvest its fruit!
