Physical wellness vs complete wellness | Shubhi Srivastava

women-inspiring-each-otherFor most of us wellness actually means being on various diets, or eating less from time to time. Usually this is when our conscious suddenly awakens or when we decide to do some exercise once every 10 to 15 days. Or perhaps it’s when we go out on leisurely morning or evening walks which we treat as a big step towards our well-being. And nowadays, thanks to our honourable PM Mr. Modi, it is yoga and meditation classes which are selling like hot cakes. But is it really helping us, or is it what we call complete wellness?

Though complete wellness is a vast topic, and I could elaborate each aspect of it in great detail, the important point is to understand the difference between physical wellness and complete wellness. Most of us only relate wellness as being physically fit. We often forget that physical wellness is just one aspect of complete wellness and not the only aspect. But still the sad part is, we don’t even follow completely what we know and most of the time we hide behind various excuses.

When you eat a nutritionally balanced diet within your calorie requirement, exercise moderately at least 3-5 days in a week, get adequate amount of sleep, get regular medical check-ups done and takes safety precautions, only and only then are you are taking care of your physical wellness. But are you really doing all you can – that’s the big question as physical wellness is like a base camp to complete wellness. When you are physically well, only then you will move up the ladder towards Intellectual, Emotional, Social, Occupational, Financial, Environmental and Spiritual Wellness which altogether combine to make up complete wellness.

So, when you take responsibility for your own health first and then of the people around you, and develop your lifestyle in such a sustainable way and your conscious awakens – that’s when you are one step closer to complete wellness.
