Inspirational Woman: Richa.S | Founder of Fabulously Desi

Being bought up in a diamond merchant’s family, I always wanted to learn about diamonds and how to design and make jewellery. I started working when I was 18 and always knew I wanted to do something of my own someday. While browsing through magazines for reference, my eyes would always drool over Indian embroidered lenghas, dresses and handbags. Intricate Indian karigiri was always my inspiration.

After I quit my job, I did my G.I.A in jewellery design and diamond grading but fashion has always been calling. I ended up using my designing skills to design authentic Indian clutches and started my own brand called Fabulously Desi by Richa.S.

Tell us about your company

I set up Fabulously Desi by Richa.S in August, 2013. We provide authentic hand embroidered clutches and potlis. We target every market because we believe in the idea of not turning the price tag while shopping, so the clutches are priced at a very economical rate.

What drove you to become an Entrepreneur?

After I finished my education from IIGJ and GIA as a jewellery designer and diamond grader I worked with leading designers in Mumbai. I always wanted to do something of my own, something that could keep me busy but yet give me time for myself and my family. My passion towards intricate Indian work made me design clutches. My mother and my twin sister, Ria encouraged me to start my own brand and I can’t thank them enough for it.

Fabulously Desi _ 001What has been your biggest challenge in achieving your success?

Every challenge big or small has made me grow as an individual. But my biggest challenge is to translate a sketch into a product until I am satisfied and happy with it.

What has been your greatest achievement so far?

Fabulously Desi is just two years old and we still have a long long way to go!

Who has been your biggest inspiration?

My parents, Sandeepa and Rupesh Shah have always been my biggest inspiration. They are first my friends and then my parents and that’s why I look up to them.

How do you balance your work life and home life?

My mother and my husband, Avnit have been very supportive during this journey. They not only bring out the best in me but also make things so much easier. It’s only because of them I can have the best of both the worlds.

What advice do you have for women starting out on their own?

Believe in your dreams and work towards them with passion and sincerity. Everything can be achieved with hard work. Complete focus is a must.

What does the future hold for you?

I live in the present. There is just so much to explore and creativity knows no bounds so I’m sure the future holds a surprise.
