Inspirational Woman: Payal Kapoor | Director, Visions Interior Designers and Consultants

payal kapoor featured

Payal KapoorI see myself as a very methodical, and a meticulous person. I do not like to leave things for the last minute – work wise or in my personal life. I can be short tempered if things do not go the way I want them done especially at the work front. I find that sometimes people do not want to work hard and honestly. For me there is no shortcut to hard work and honesty.

I cannot sit still and can get stressed if I have nothing to look forward to work wise. I like my work and am passionate about it.

At the same time, I like a variety in my work and do not like to be repetitive.

I enjoy travelling overseas and within the country. Outbound travel and exposure to architectural and design elements keeps me abreast with styles, trends and ideas.

Personally, I am easy to get along with, love nature, do not like hot places, so I am a hill person all the way.

I like animals, and feel they are my stress busters and the least demanding creatures. Dogs are God’s gift to mankind. I do not remember ever not having a pet.

Family is important to me, not just immediate ,but also maintaining relations with one and all.

Life for me is a full circle and I believe in the fact that what is in my destiny will come to me in the correct destined moment and time. So no one can take that away. However I still feel there is no shortcut to hard work and being honest to oneself.

Introduction: Tell us about yourself, your background and what you do currently

I am a consultant giving architectural design services to Hospitality sector, high-end residential and commercial projects on both turnkey and consultancy basis.

I have done my Masters in interiors and come from a services background.

Currently I am working on a hotel project, high-end residence, mall and aircraft interiors.

What has been your biggest challenge in achieving your success?

The biggest challenge is to maintain my timelines, be steady in getting and delivering challenging projects and doing each project differently, based on the design brief, budget constraint and finishing the same on time. I do not ever want to be casted in a stereotype style/niche, so a variety of projects are what keeps the creative juices flowing.

What has been your greatest achievement personally?

My biggest achievement in my opinion has been to stay in the industry, evolve with trends and times, with new styles. I multi-task with decent efficiency from being a mother, wife and an entrepreneur.

If you weren’t doing what you do now, what would you be doing?

It would have been something to do with nature in the hills, though I really do not know what. Otherwise I would have been a traveller.

Who has been your biggest inspiration?

I like what people like Ratan Tata who quietly carry on doing their work, with dignity and grace without being pompous. Also in their own way they give back to society what they earn.

What does the future hold for you?

I feel life is all about learning. I try and learn from all age groups from 4-year-old to a 80+ year old.

Age for me is only a number.

I want to age gracefully, and probably exit this world still with my working shoes on.
