Tell us about yourself, your background and what you do currently
I am currently anchoring travel shows for Cnn Ibn and some other channels. I travel to cities within India and also anchor travel shows abroad. Aside from that I write and create feature films in Bollywood.
Tell us about any current projects or initiatives you wish to promote
I have written films like Creature 3d and Horror Story. My next films coming are Phir Se by director Kunal Kohli and 1920 Part Three by Vikram Bhatt. I have also written a film for Tips and another one for Balaji. I am also acting in the second season of my web show called #lovebytes on Sony Liv. It was a success as India’s first digital show and so Sony is coming up with season two now. We start shooting in two to three weeks.
What has been your biggest challenge in achieving your success?
Patience is all that we need in this industry. After doing about 15 TV adverts, I then had the opportunity to act in a TV show for Yash raj on Sony TV, called Khotey Sikkey.
What has been your greatest achievement personally?
Now I judge a lot of events in colleges in Mumbai as they think I am an achiever. I have to admit, it was a big thing for me when I was judging for Xaviers College, a college that I myself graduated from.
If you weren’t doing what you do now, what would you be doing?
I have a very creative mind and have ideas for product inventions and business ideas. Whenever I get time away from writing and anchoring, I always get back to my business ideas and take them a step closer to execution, but it’s a slow process and the games are bigger there.
Who has been your biggest inspiration?
Not anyone in particular, but whenever I meet anyone who has made it big in life and are successful today without an influential background, I draw inspiration from them. I’m also inspired by anyone who is hard working and passionate. I read a quote once, “Sometimes you win, sometimes you learn.” It taught me a lot that when we don’t win, we aren’t losing, but just learning.
What does the future hold for you?
The future is a long time and I believe it will be more fruitful than what it is today. Everyday is important so I make sure I add something to myself each day – personally, spiritually, physically or professionally.
About Suhkhmani Sadana:
Born in Amritsar, I spent the first few years of my livelihood budding in the Punjabi ambience. Simple people, simple want, all-girls convent school, Sacred Heart School, food as the utmost priority, fresh air. The world outside was never a matter of concern for me. But my yearning to grow and quench my thirst to travel made me run away to a boarding school in Welham Girls School, Dehradun. From here I continued to higher studies. Completing my Honours In History from Lady Shri Ram College, New Delhi, I graduated my three years studying closer to home. Ultimately, it was my love for Media and Advertisement that took me to Mumbai, a city that was so alien to me.
A diploma from Xavier’s Institute Of Communication, where I studied ‘Advertising and Marketing’ changed my life. I became a scriptwriter from here on, writing for India’s leading Advertising agency Ogilvy & Mather ‘O&M’. Here I wrote:
• Scripts for Vodafone ads
• After this I moved to MTV Channel writing for TV shows such as ‘Tech Check’ anchored by Nikhil Chinapa and a weekly show on MTV called MTV Wasp!
• I also wrote documentaries for Incredible India
When I started getting a few random offers here and there to act in advertisements, I was taken by surprise. Only with time did I realise how I loved being in front of the camera as much as being behind it.
There was no going back then. Fate, zeal and a lot of hard work gave me a fair chance. From here onwards, I started acting in many TV commercials for renowned brands. Some of the TV commercials I have featured in are:
• Garnier face of the year 2011
• Bingo advertisement with Abhishek Bachan
• Sansui advertisement with Rahul Dravid
• Ponds cream
• Park Hotel Advertisement, 2014
• Royal Stag advertisement with Harbhajan Singh
• Big Bazaar with Mahendra Singh Dhoni
• Milkmaid advertisment
• Music video called ‘Honge Kamyaab’ by Kunal Avanti and many more
As a scriptwriter, I have always believed that interesting stories will always be heard. And luckily, it’s by sheer coincidence, that my own story turned out to be the most interesting! In 2011, when I walked into the Yash Raj Mumbai office with a script in hand, aiming for a writer’s job, Yash Raj office offered me an audition for their new TV show, Khotey Sikkey and I was in! I played the eye-candy of the show – Uttara Bakshi – a prim and proper Miss hoity-toity Mumbai girl to the hilt. I thanked my stars that the role didn’t involve sari, sindoor and mangalsutra.
After acting as the main lead in Khotey Sikkey, I proceeded to act in a highly appreciated short film by Kunal Kohli Production called Ishq Holiday, 2012. The film was shot in Mauritius and released all over India in theatres.
That was just the beginning. In the last two years, I am finally swimming in the big sea, pursuing both my passions – writing as well as acting!
