I am Reenu Upadhyay, CSA at Marks and Spencer Ahmadabad Store. I have recently passed senior secondary examinations. We are a family of 5 members where I live with my Mom, Dad and 2 siblings. My father is a priest and my mother is a home maker.

I joined M&S as a lady security guard on third party payroll with NISA securities in May 2016. But I was always more interested into customer service and sales. Whenever there were new promotions, sale, stock takes or even team briefings on the floor, I would always stand near to the team to understand what’s happening. I would always pay attention towards garments T-codes and the innovation with which they were made. But due to financial crisis in my family and heavy medical expenses of my grandparents, I had to continue working as a guard.

Though my family was never happy and supportive of me doing a job. They do not support education and independence of girls. In my society, people talk behind my back, they raise their eyebrows when I leave home every morning to go to office. There has always been huge pressure on me to leave job and get married. But I have been fighting against all the odds because I want to do something good for my family and for myself.

Amidst all these struggles, in Aug last year, I was shattered to know that the number of security guards deployed at our store was decreased to one and that I will be the one to lose my job due to cost cutting. But by God’s grace, my passion and interest did not go unnoticed and I joined M&S as an intern.

The store management team then persuaded me to complete my higher secondary education. Following their advise, I successfully completed my 10+2 examinations and joined as a CSA on 2nd August 2017.

I want to conclude my biography with my belief that we become what we think. There is nothing in this world, no force, no power, that can stop us from achieving our dream. I believe in doing right things, the right way. This is what I am, Reenu Upadhyay – a small particle of dust (the literal meaning of my name), aspiring to do something great.
