Tell us about yourself

I am a barrister / solicitor qualified in the UK. Born in Nigeria, I studied at a boarding school in India and moved to London with my parents when I was 16.  I worked for 15 years as a lawyer in India and in the UK and then joined Citibank in 2005 as a compliance officer. I subsequently moved to Barclays where I work now. I am also a trustee on the board of a charity called A4ID – Advocates for International Development.

Where are you living currently and why did you choose that location?

LONDON. I LOVE London and Maida Vale where I live is a great central location but with great amenities and access to Canary Wharf, where I work, It has a feel of suburbia with trees and gardens!

Why did you move away from India?

My parents were based in the UK. I moved over to join them, to go to university and to pursue my professional career.

What do you miss most about living abroad?

I miss the Indian social activity

What do you like most about your current location?

London is a fantastic city! What’s not to like?

Who in particular helped you during your transition?

My parents, my family and my good friends.

Do you live in an Indian community? If so, what are the main differences between Indians abroad and Indians still living in India (if any!)

I live in a multi-cultural environment with friends from diverse backgrounds. Indians are creatures of habit so when they come from India they gravitate to comfort zones but once they are established they tend to embrace the diversity in the UK culture very proactively.

Do you think you’ll go back to India one day?

Yes – I would love to…
