Overwhelmed? Not me! | Monisha Doley

Calm women

peacefulIn this crazy world which never stops moving, do you feel overwhelmed with so many chores to be done? Be it assignments, projects, targets, doing the laundry, cooking, groceries, working out, traffic, rain, hail, storm and yada yada yada…

Do you go bonkers and feel like pulling your hair out? Screaming out loud from the rooftop only seems to be the way out but unfortunately you can’t do that because people will mock you and talk about you. Relax – there is a better way. And nothing but this quote from, “A course in Miracles” can be more soothing and comforting:

“There is a way of living in the world that is not here, although it seems to be. You do not change appearances though you smile more frequently. Your forehead is serene and your eyes are quiet.”

1. Be still and breathe

Conscious breathing is the best remedy for everything. It is the easiest and simplest way to transform chaos into calm. When overwhelmed, just stop everything and draw your attention to your breathing. Everything is energy. You are energy. By focusing on your breath you become centred and start to transform your chaotic energy into calm energy. When you change on the inside, everything outside responds the same way. It mirrors back your calmness. You can either chant a Mantra or simply breathe. Just say, “Peace begins with me” as you continue breathing deeply.

2. One chore at a time

You feel overwhelmed when all you think about is the big picture. Don’t think about all the chores to be completed. List down all that needs to be done. Write it all down and pick up one thing at a time. Dedicate yourself to only that one thing. Think only about that, love only that, work only on that and forget about the rest. Be committed and in no time you will complete everything on your to do list. Tackle everything else the same way. You will be surprised by your achievements without getting burnt out.

3. Infuse joy

Instead of stressing yourself over the fact that you have umpteen chores to be done, shift your perception. Be grateful that you have so many things to do. That is when you experience miracles because a miracle is nothing but a shift in perception. Instead of looking at everything as chores, embrace the fact that you have the power and ability to do that.

If you are overwhelmed about projects and targets, be grateful that you have a job. If you are overwhelmed with laundry, grocery, babies, husband, family, parents and bills, be grateful for having all that in your life.

There is indeed a way of moving from chaos to calm in an instant, with a simple shift in perception. PHEW!
