It’s a tough one. There are lots of coffee shops and cafés that I frequent, especially when my daughter was very small and I needed to get out the house and have a caffeine hit, but would I call any of them heaven? Possibly not.
My Mumbai Heaven would have to be the Lebanese restaurant at Sahara Star Hotel, Mabruk. It’s situated inside the doughnut hotel near the airport and feels like you are dining under the stars. The décor is very middle eastern and the restaurant has man-made indoor rivers running along side it, complete with palm trees, fire torches and of course the obligatory light show. There is even a private dining spot under an umbrella on a little island in the rivers.
The lighting and the ambience is beautiful and the food is exquisite. They have a full menu of Lebanese and Middle Eastern food, but they also do an evening buffet that is delicious. The staff is attentive, clued up and friendly.
Sometimes, Mabruk might even send their magician over to your table for a show. I usually cringe at these sorts of things, bow my head so as not to make eye contact. Somehow it works here though. The tricks are sincerely quite mind=blowing.
There are shisha pipes around if you enjoy a post-dinner smoke. If you spend over a certain amount (gulp!) you are presented with a lovely boxed shisha to take home.
Mabruk is somewhere my husband and I like to go to celebrate something special, it’s not a standard Saturday night hang out. It’s not cheap but it’s worth every rupee.
