Tell us about yourself, your background and what you do currently
I am singer, actor, VJ and writer and I love everything I do, as I do it from the heart. I am also an electronics engineer and although I may have a degree in engineering, I have no regrets that I am now involved in so many other fields. Everything I do, I do it from the heart and give it my all. This is the way I am. Being emotional helps me as I think it gets the best out of me, whether its singing or acting, emotions translate into art easily and I use that to the best of my ability.
Tell us about any current projects or initiatives you wish to promote
I am currently finishing recording my second music album. Music is very much a part of my life and I believe music nurtures me, inspires me and motivates me. I love to write my own lyrics and it helps me connect with listeners, who have had the same experiences. My first Hollywood film, ‘The Other Side of the Door ‘ for 20th Century Fox, released in many countries from March. I have just returned from San Francisco after filming my second Hollywood venture, a film called ‘The Valley’, wherein I play the lead, which releases next year.
What has been your biggest challenge in achieving your success?
I think women have it in them to do what they want to do, to accomplish whatever they wish. Blocks are only in the mind. Balancing family life and work schedules has sometimes been a challenge, but I owe a lot to my husband, Lars, for helping me out there. My biggest challenge was to make something of myself without any obligations to anyone, entirely on my own steam.
I have always worked hard and achieved whatever I had in mind.
What has been your greatest achievement personally?
My greatest achievement personally is being blessed with a daughter and being regarded as a loyal friend by all who have touched my life.
If you weren’t doing what you do now, what would you be doing?
I’d probably be in a field that was people oriented, as I am comfortable around any crowd. Maybe event management as I’m a Virgo and would be a perfectionist at that.
Who has been your biggest inspiration?
My biggest inspiration has been my mother, who balanced work and family beautifully. My friends and my fans also inspire me a lot; to perform, to sing, to dance, to act, so a big thank you to my family, friends and fans. They are my pillars of inspiration and my lifeline.
What does the future hold for you?
The future is whatever I make it. I will be working in a prestigious Malyalam movie for the first time. My roots are from Kerala.
