Inspirational Woman: Mishti Verma | Founder of Inner Katha Interventions

MishtiVermaI am an experiential corporate trainer, theatre director and founder of Inner Katha Interventions.

My company brings the magic of theatre and alternative experiential learning to the corporate stage. We do behavioural and soft skills training for women, students and organisations, and have conducted programs at leading multinationals pan India.

I started theatre at the age of 16. I was fortunate to have worked with theatre stalwarts. One of the first lessons in theatre I learnt was, ‘To spread smiles is real theatre; the amount of people you make joyous is your true success.’

I have always strived to apply this lesson. Since then, I have written and directed many theatre productions. After I completed my management studies I worked with leading organisations such as The Times of India. Later, combining my corporate and theatre experience, I founded Inner Katha Interventions, an alternative approach to classroom learning.

At Inner Katha, we have a vertical dedicated to women and gender sensitisation. Recently, we organised the first of its kind theatre forum on gender sensitisation, where my play Zubaan featured monologues based on true life experiences of many women achievers. Zubaan also spoke about gender stereotypes and social biases rooted in tradition. These monologues were performed by seasoned theatre personalities including the legendary Tom Alter.

We also have a separate initiative for Children – CATCH EM YOUNG – enabling holistic development of children through theatre and expressive art therapy.

My quest for excellence and the ‘extraordinary.’

What has been your biggest challenge in achieving your success?

I believe in the lines of the great poem Ulysses, “To strive, to seek, to find and not to yield”. When, you are setting up a business, there would always be challenges, but we have always found a way forward.

What has been your greatest achievement personally?

Touching lives through the magic of theatre and corporate training. I had written and directed a play called “The Last dance”. After the show, a gentleman walked up to us and thanked us for staging the play. He told us that after watching the play, he wanted to reunite with his wife after twelve years of separation. I consider these moments as more special achievements, than all other rewards.

If you weren’t doing what you do now, what would you be doing?

I would have continued working in a marketing role with a media organisation.

What has been your biggest inspiration?

My quest for excellence and the ‘extraordinary.’

What does the future hold for you?

We are committed to the cause of gender sensitisation and wish to do many path-breaking projects.
