Introduction: Tell us about yourself, your background and what you do currently
I come from a Kashmiri background, but I was born in the city of Jammu, India in 1992. I came to Canada at the age of 8 with my family. Since the age of 5, I had shown a strong passion in the arts, especially dance. It has been over 15 years and I am persistent in taking training to become a better dancer. I am currently in my final semester of taking Early Childhood Education. My future goal is to combine my passion to work with children and also grow my fitness class. I started Belly AB Fitness a year ago in the hopes of helping women feel more confident and guide them in living a healthy lifestyle. I believe helping people is the best gift you can offer. When I started this class, my ultimate goal was to help women of different cultures come together in a positive ambiance. But, I noticed men started taking interest in my class as well.
I am thankful to have received encouraging response from the participants in the past year. The structure of Belly AB Fitness is a combination of dance and fitness. I often get asked if the participants need to have a background in dance. The answer is no. You don’t need to have any background in dance or fitness. My workouts are structured in a way that challenge participants that workout daily, and also can be modified for those that don’t work out regularly. The dance part of the class is not choreographed. It rather focuses on burning calories by doing simple but energetic dance moves to styles such as Bollywood, Belly Dance, Hip Hop, and Bhangra. With over 15 years of experience in dance, I knew incorporating dance in my fitness class will be a lot of fun!
Tell us about any current projects or initiatives you wish to promote
Currently I am working on several dance projects for my YouTube channel. I am focusing on different dance styles and not just Bollywood. In addition to this, I am also working towards teaching my class other than Toronto.

What has been your biggest challenge in achieving your success?
Challenges play a big part in achieving any success. They go hand in hand. Without hurdles you don’t grow, and if you don’t grow, you will never find the best version of you. I think the ongoing challenge I encounter is fear. The inner voices that divulge you to give up and, question your goals by stimulating negative thoughts is the fear I face from time to time. However, there are two sides to a coin. I just flip over the negative thoughts by encouraging and reminding myself of how far I have come. It’s very easy for me and I think for people in general to overlook their success. Hence it’s important to remind ourselves to appreciate our accomplishments.
What has been your greatest achievement personally?
I think my greatest achievement is when people take their time to message me and say “you inspire me”. That moment really reflects my choice of why I wanted to create dance videos and start my fitness class.
If you weren’t doing what you do now, what would you be doing?
You only live once. I wouldn’t miss any opportunity to pursue my dream. This is why I am combining my passion to work with children and continue to inspire people through my dance and fitness class.
Who has been your biggest inspiration?
My biggest inspiration is my sister. I have watched her evolve in every area of her life and only wish to be as successful as her. She is a true example of a hard working woman.
What does the future hold for you?
I hope to grow my class and travel around the world inspiring people with my artistic abilities.
