Inspirational Woman: Shruti Sodhi | Founder of Shruti Sodhi Interior Designs

Tell us about yourself, your background and what you do currently

I run an interior design company by the name of Shruti Sodhi Interior Designs (S.S.I.D). I’m a graduate in English honours with no background in interiors.

I was also a model with Elite Model Management for a few years. I think my drive was something else didn’t feel aesthetically or intellectually motivated in the glamour world and decided to move on from there.

I’ve always been very ambitious and wanted to do something different and exciting which posed a challenge at every step. I got into marketing and sales as a consultant with some great brands.

I would say that I was lucky that big companies gave me an opportunity to represent them. I was a freelance consultant with Seasons Group looking after their hotel sales, catering business, turquoise cottage.

I was a brand ambassador for them and I also worked with Ferns & Petals as a consultant level for their events division. I was also with Spice Group as well for sometime as a consultant managing digital Movement. I have also worked with Kimaya energy as a consultant for their luxury department and the same time worked on getting them investors for their Solar and Hydro Projects at various location in India.

Tell us about any current projects or initiatives you wish to promote

As a interior designer I feel challenges are more when someone is just creative and not from that background but i think that very fact makes it all the more fun.

I sarted S.S.I.D 5 years ago just by telling everyone I had started doing interiors.I was lucky to get a farm house in Chhatarpur right away. That was my first project. I had to have it right and had no help but with focus ,determination and talent one can achieve anything..It was a huge success! From there on there was no looking back. Today my list of projects complete and in process are as following:

Residence in Magnolia,Bungalow in Sunder Nagar1, Dupley in Eldeco,5 projects in Goa,Villa in Vyzak,Bungalow in Pitumpura, Penthouse in Lagoon, Caitriona,4Floors in Gurgaon sector 30,Marriott Bangalore,Manali Inn Manali, Apartment in Green Park extension and a few more.

I have bigger plans for the company and i am getting an extremely good response. In fact we are rejecting work. We are a small extremely driven team of professionals who want to enjoy work.

What has been your biggest challenge in achieving your success?

I think there’s a very thin line between success and not trying at all is us …We are our biggest limitation the moment we learn to let go of people, things, self we become free to believe that there is nothing that you fear to lose and so we try and we succeed.

I am not an interior designer but i knew and still know that I can be anybody I want to be. My biggest challenge in my past line of career was that I was not qualified for it but it never stopped me and wherever I was I become the best.

What has been your greatest achievement personally?

My greatest achievement personally is the experience and knowledge I have gained through my own personal struggles.

If you weren’t doing what you do now, what would you be doing?

If i was not doing all this i would have been in the film industry in Mumbai, either in acting, production or direction.

Modelling is where it all started for me but Mumbai and the showbiz life after leaving Delhi was not something I found myself comfortable with. In a proper corporate work environment we find ourselves dealing with the similar qualified people. The Film Industry I feel has many disadvantages that comes with following a dream. All sorts of people with every kind of intent. Somewhere I knew if I will be there it will be behind the camera as that’s where the real power lies.

The glamour is blinding definitely but extremely short lived for most.

Who has been your biggest inspiration?

Plenty of successful people inspire me but no one specific . My life will definitely go in footsteps of those who have worked for humanity and animal welfare.

What does the future hold for you?

The future holds a hope for me to not only become but to be for others, inspire them in their journey to success. I am deeply connected to animals and try help them in distress in whatever way i can working with organisations.

I feel everyone has a purpose in life but there is always a time in life when one fully realises it. I guess my time is yet to come but i know sure when it will that’s when my entire life would find its true meaning.

I plan to write a book one day on my life.
