Tell us about yourself, your background and what you do currently
I grew up in Kolkata where I completed my schooling. At 18, I went to the UK to complete my graduation ( Bachelors in International business with a major in economics). I then completed my masters from the University of Cambridge with a part scholarship from the Cambridge Commonwealth Trust. After post-graduation, I worked in the real estate sector for roughly three years. It was then that I decided to follow my passion for travel and co-founded PlushEscapes.com: a curated online travel portal to help travellers discover and book the best getaways in the country.
Tell us about any current projects or initiatives you wish to promote
We at PlushEscapes seek to promote travel within the country. Ours is such a diverse country – there is so much to explore in every corner. Indians today take long weekend getaways/staycations much like the west and it is interesting to see that people are now choosing to travel and explore what India has to offer – away from the usual tourist trail.
What has been your biggest challenge in achieving your success?
Breaking into an industry without any previous experience was not easy. We had to start at ground zero and work relentlessly to ensure that we knew the right people and had an in-depth understanding of the frustrations faced by travellers and hoteliers.
What has been your greatest achievement personally?
Living and studying at Cambridge and learning from some of the best minds in the world.
If you weren’t doing what you do now, what would you be doing?
I would definitely be travelling full-time and blogging. I admire some Instagram accounts that have set-up wildly successful businesses from travel blogging.
Who has been your biggest inspiration?
I feel all women who put themselves out there and work hard to push the envelope have always inspired me. My mother has been the biggest inspiration and my greatest strength for helping me believe that anything can be achieved if you put your mind to it and not conforming to gender based stereotypes.
What does the future hold for you?
Great things, I hope. I aim to take PlushEscapes to newer heights and help transform the way people travel in India.
