An MBA and CS by education, ‘a balanced life’ has always been my mantra. I’m passionate about anything I do and once I make up my mind on something, I give it my all. My work experience pans from Pantaloons and Aditya Birla in retail, to a fairly long digital stint in Reliance Broadcast Network. My family is the centre of my life and my work is my fervor. I’m a multi- tasker and easily bore with a single activity. At heart, I’m a designer and gardener and at best a cook!
Tell us about Dial Organic
Founded in June 2014, Dial Organic is my personal venture into which I’m putting forth the best of my education, work and personal skills. I’ve spent the last year working with farmers, organic manufacturers and traders to ascertain not only that natural is better – that’s established by many reports across the world now – but also that the products that are put out are natural are as close to the pure form of nature we can expect as consumers. Only third party certified products will make it to our shelves.
Based in Mumbai, our vision spreads over a vast horizon of services including the website – www.DialOrganic.com – which retails all products under the organic banner across india, a unique Farm2Home service that provides fresh organic farm produce to homes across Mumbai, and finally The Organic Lunchbox, which is India’s first complete organic meal service currently delivering nutritionist approved organic meals across Mumbai.
We touch upon all aspects of providing affordable organic produce to consumers. Via Organic Lunchbox, we spread organic meals to corporate, hospitals and individuals in Mumbai. No preservatives, no chemicals and no pesticides make it to the platter. Our meals are planned by nutritionists and are calorie-counted. Farm2Home delivers fresh organic produce to homes in the city. I’m primarily a proud Indian and am proud these these products make it to our shelves. Dial Organic is proud to contribute to the socio-economic and healthy growth of India.
It’s always been my goal to be an entrepreneur. Right from the first day I joined college, I knew that I wanted to create my own firm. Luckily for me, I worked in roles and companies that allowed by entrepreneur streak to bloom. Reliance, Pantaloons and Aditya Birla – all these companies have added invaluable experience to me.
The earliest reference of organic in my mind is that of looking for a reliable milk source to wean my son. Someone recommended organic and it was uphill from there. I then spent many hours researching organic, its channel partners, sourcing, farmers etc. I completely loved the concept and started working my own ideas on what I want to do with it.
What has been your biggest challenge in achieving your success?
Taking the first step was hard. I’d never worked by myself and getting myself into a work routine without reporting to anyone or having work boundaries was strange. But once I got into the groove, there was no looking back yet. It was just a matter of realigning the mind space.
What has been your greatest achievement so far?
The balance that I strive to achieve every day is my daily achievement meter. Being there for my son when he needs me and with my team when I’m at work. It gives me a high everyday!
Who has been your biggest inspiration?
Hands-down – my father! He’s not only my inspiration but also my rock-solid supporter. He has stood by me in every decision – whether to quit my great-going job or start a new venture.
How do you balance your work life and home life?
Oh! That’s my favourite part of life! I’m the happiest pitching my concept to a client in the morning hours, picking my son from school in the afternoon and working with my team to ensure daily goals are achieved in the evening. If I’m feeling particularly energetic, I’ll whip up a waffle for desert at home too. On days like these – I sleep very well.
What advice do you have for women starting out on their own?
When the going gets tough, the tough gets going – So hang in there!
Can you recommend any organisations or networking groups that have particularly helped you on your journey?
The companies that I’ve worked for – rather the people I’ve worked with. They have all particularly added to my journey immensely.
If you could ask for one thing to help propel your business what would it be?
Awareness! Education about organic!
What does the future hold for you?
Loads of work and even more fun hopefully!
