Female Entrepreneur: Harika Jeewak | Founder of Aawestruck

Tell us about yourself

I come from a very simple and orthodox family in Hyderabad. My parents have always encouraged me to follow my dreams and live my life on my own terms. I always loved this lesson from 4th grade “The road less travelled” by Robert Frost and eventually ended up taking the road less travelled all my life.Harika Jeewak

I graduated as a civil engineer from Chaitanya Bharathi Institute of Technology, Hyderabad and decided to stick to my core field. This was the biggest challenge in life as the infra business is predominantly a male dominated industry. I worked for the business development department in the Infra sector for about 10 years and the journey was no piece of cake. My work involved travelling to various places to improve local Infra facilities like roads, bridges, urban amenities, etc. Travelling to places with lack of basic facilities & trying to improve their transport facilities was the biggest challenge I experienced and loved every bit of it. My parents had always been my biggest support in regard to my career. Having worked for 10 Years, I decided to take a break. I always had the idea of Aawestruck since last seven years, and during my break, I wanted to turn this in to a reality.

Tell us about the company you have set up

Aawestruck was born on 22nd December 2014. We endeavour to make people feel special with our surprises. We transform special occasions in to memories to treasure for a lifetime. We craft & formulate birthday, anniversary, welcome home, and any regular day happiness surprises for our clients. Everybody who wants to make their loved one’s special days extra special are our target market and we feel this would be more convenient for the NRI’s who are away from families.

Why did you set up the company? / What drove you to become an Entrepreneur?

I had always been the first person amongst my family and friends to jump in and suggest ways to make them feel special for their special days, and everybody loved my surprises. That’s when my husband gave me an idea to start a business on the same lines and this is how my passion became my business. I am a strong believer of the fact that a happy family is the key to be a happy person. A happy family makes way to a happy person which makes the whole community happy and helps them live in harmony. I call this the HAPPINESS CYCLE. With our day to day life chaos we forget to tell people we live with, how much they are important to us. We want to express our appreciation towards them and make them feel special but we lack original ideas and time. At Aawestruck, we plan thoughtful surprises for everyone based on their likes and dislikes.

I wanted to bring a change in the way we celebrate occasions materialistically. I wanted them to be more real and help people get that special attention which they deserved. With Aawestruck, I am able to help people do the same and the idea of doing this pushed me be an entrepreneur.

What has been your biggest challenge in achieving your success?

Not every person is ready for the kind of services we offer. The biggest challenge is to make people accept this service as everyone loves receiving surprises but not giving surprises.

What has been your greatest achievement so far?

A client flew me down to Bangalore to execute his friend’s birthday. I was very excited to work on this particular task and I think this is one of those surprises which I pulled off very well. The client as well as the gentleman for whom the surprise was planned was very happy and thrilled to have ben awestruck by our team.

Who has been your biggest inspiration?

My life has been my biggest inspiration. I always believe our lives teach us much more than any book or any words of wisdom from our well-wishers.

How do you balance your work life and home life?

Its not at all easy being a mother. I am blessed with a son who is 4 year old who is very active and smart, keeps me on my toes all the time. It’s a lot tough but still I make time for my family & work.

What advice do you have for women starting out on their own?

The journey is not going to be easy, as women are always expected to take care of the family. But starting on our own gives us the freedom to stay by the side of your family in times of need. Women starting out on their own definitely need to be very energetic & strong to manage their life.

If you could ask for one thing to help propel your business what would it be?

I would ask for more love in the world amongst people. As it is, there is no time for personal life and your loved ones. With love to be made felt and no time with individuals, Aawestruck comes into picture to help you make your loved ones feel special.

What does the future hold for you?

What you give is what you get back. As I plan to make the world happy, in turn my world would be happy. What more can I ask for. Aawestruck is not just a business idea, but a dream to help people express what they feel about their loved ones. I think it will become an essential commodity in everyone’s life, just like salt which adds tastes to your life making the experience way better.
