Mumbai / December 7, 2015: All wanderers and food lovers who like to travel far and wide to discover wholesome and tasty cuisines across India, should take a pit-stop at the newest entrant in the Mumbai culinary souk, 29 – Twenty Nine that opens doors at Kemps Corner today! Presenting delectable cuisines spanning the 29 kingly states of India, this vegetarian haven promises to serve authenticity at its best as it takes you on a walk down India’s culinary memory lane. Join us in celebrating India’s regional heritage with yet-to-be explored regional cuisines housing culinary jewels from Rajasthan to Mirzoram to Jharkhand to Uttar Pradesh!

Brought to you by Nishek Jain, an engineer-turned-restaurateur, who wanted to introduce to our maximum city an eatery with ‘equal heart and honestly as India’s local home kitchens (read ghar ka khana)’, Jain has travelled the lengths and breadth of India to introduce and shortlist the menu for his maiden entrepreneurial hospitality venture. “While we Indians have been in pursuit of global cuisine in the recent years, with ‘29’, we wish to bring secret regional recipes from within the local kitchens of all 29 princely states of our country. Hence, along with most regional favorites, we shall be offering regional-specials from time to time to enhance the culinary experience of our patrons (like sapaddu-lunch meals every sunday – starting Jan 13, 2016).

Another unique offer is the two-for-four-appetizer platter that allows you to sample any four appetizers from any four states for the price of two! Now Andhra Pradesh can meet Delhi at the same table and for a price that is truly worth celebrating at this 80+ cover restaurant that is at the heart of South Mumbai’s vegetarian haven.

Whether it’s devouring mouth-watering food from the 7 sisters of India or aamcha Maharastrian fare, 29 states will take you through a memorable voyage of divine food and culture giving you India on a plate.

Statescape

India and its love for colours is evident in everything we do from our traditions to our food. Staying true to this ritual, 29 states is a burst of vibrancy marked with abstract paintings and lamps on one side of the hedge whilst punctuated with panels of colour lighting up clean white walls on the other. Vibrant wooden chairs and tables man the walls while you can witness the chef whipping up the best of the state delicacies behind an open kitchen with a glass facade.

Culinary map of India

They say that you can eat more varieties of food in India than any country in the world! Begin the authentic gastronomic ride devouring dishes from the 29 kingly states of India with a menu that features a multitude of regional appetizers, mains, desserts, beverages and the likes! Some examples of these are –

North Eastern: Northeastern cuisine is rich and varied enough to fill your stomach and give you much food for thought. The common perception of north-eastern food being a non-vegetarian state is put to rest with these renowned vegetarian delights like momo’s with three dips, the Assamese Potato chops with spciy Sanmeholi Chutney or Arunachal Pradesh’s Thukpa and Sticky Rice.

Delhi, Punjab & Haryana: Walk down “Dilli’s” streets with Dilli Chaat Tokri – A perennial favourite from the streets of good ol’ dilli combining samosas, pakodas, palak namak pares and crunchy papdi served in a edible tokri. Think of Punjab or Haryana and you can imagine its earthy heritage of lush green fields and robust lifestyle. Punjabi food is rich, robust and full of life.  Pick from ekdum Punjabi Paneer Tikka Masala with baby butter kulcha, Rajma Chawal (Butter Rice) or the Haryanvi Sindhi Seyal Bhaji with butter naan.

Rajasthan: Rajasthan, the land of Maharajas, is famous for its rich culture. What makes the state distinctive and popular is its cuisine. Rajasthanis love their food and it is evident in their preparations. Kacchi Haldi Ki Sabzi aur Tukkad, a recipe from the dhabbas of Rajasthan is a staple trucker dish, cherished by locals as well as tourists – you can also choose the Ajmeri Mawa Jalebi with Rabadi for your sweet-cravings

Andhra Pradesh: Andhra food is deliciously hot and tangy. The everyday favourite is pulihara, tamarind rice spiced up with sliced green chillies. The Telugu people love their side dishes, pickles that will have you red in the face, crisp poppadums and yoghurt. Hyderabadi Haleem is at offer, presented in a healthy-vegetarian manner for the patrons. A common street food of Andhra, relish the Punugulu, or the  Double Ka Meeta for the incorrigible sweet tooth.

Bihar & Jharkhand: Every place has its own culture, tradition and food. Largely influencing each other, Bihar and Jharkhand too have their own authentic and mouth-watering cuisine predominantly being vegetarian. Tuck into the Bihari delicacy Litti-choka with bhurta or Jharkhand’s traditional dish Dhuska-Ghunguni offered in festivals and celebration.
