Inspirational Woman: Sugandh Jolly | Co-founder of ELV, Wonderland and Launchpad

Introduction: Tell us about yourself, your background and what you do currently

Having done my MBA in Marketing from Symbiosis in Pune, I was always very focussed on improving the quality of education in our country. I decided to further pursue my masters in Development of infant and Toddler child- care program from University of California, Distance learning program. Currently, I am married with two beautiful children and I am full time involved with Early Leaning Village, a globalised preschool focused on creating a fostering and nurturing environment for infants.

Another venture is Wonderland Preschool and Nursery where our focus is on a new paradigm of joyful learning, setting a benchmark in the field of early education.  As a co-founder and as a mother, I am dedicated to constantly evolve the early years education culture through promoting open spaces infrastructure and bringing into action the “work and play” methodology which is essential in today’s times.

Tell us about any current projects or initiatives you wish to promote

Launchpad is a program we are currently pushing hard while emphasising on the imminent needs of children today to take up activities outside the classroom. Launchpad is an after school activity center for children in the age group of 3 to 12 years. We make children Life Smart by exposing them to a whole lot of activities. viz. Drama, Music, Dance, Painting, Tennis, Golf, Creative Writing etc.

We are currently preparing to put up a show under the aegis of Launchpad, a stage adaptation of Fantastic Mr. Fox by Roald Dahl. It is to be held on the 7th of April in Chattarpur. The event will consist of a one-hour play directed by Lushin Dubey and Bubbles Sabarwal. Followed by a Spring Barnfest Carnival, which will be attended by discerning families from Delhi/Gurgaon, Influencers & Journalists.

What has been your biggest challenge in achieving your success?

To get my faculty to understand my vision has one of my greatest challenges. As a country, India has narrowed its vision to stereotypical practices of educating the young minds. As teachers and mentors, we need to redefine education standards in our country and start implementing them while taking some advice from the west.  Hiring the right staff was definitely a challenge, bigger challenge was to help them align to the concept of the new ways to make children learn methodology and making them adapt to a new curriculum, which focuses on emotional, physical and mental development in a nutshell.

What has been your greatest achievement personally?

My plan in life is to keep on aiming higher as the years go by so the achievements and failure make a part of my journey.  My greatest achievement has been without doubt conducting my first winter carnival for the school and seeing all my parents gleam with joy. The twinkle in their eyes after seeing their little once dance and perform on stage was truly priceless. After that day, year after year, I have just tried to make sure that every carnival is better than the previous one.

If you weren’t doing what you do now, what would you be doing?

The desire to be an entrepreneur is an inbuilt personality trait inherited from my family. If I would have an option to do something else, I would become a social entrepreneur but in the field of education itself considering my love to educate and spread new and effective ways to educate has been something I hold very close to my heart.

Who has been your biggest inspiration?

I get inspired everyday and my children are my biggest source of inspiration. My children are not just my daily dose of happiness but also my motivating forces. When I was desperately seeking the best school for my children, I felt the lack of quality and innovation in the current education industry. Since I was fortunate enough to have resources and ample support from my family, I embarked on the journey of setting up this global preschool model for parents looking for an institution that can provide them with quality, creativity and an international environment for their children.

What does the future hold for you?

The future as they say is as uncertain as it can be. What I envision as a co-founder for my group of schools is to leave a mark and contribute in the evolving trend of a much more refined early education curriculum to prepare our students to become the future leaders of tomorrow.

I have co-founded Wonderland with my husband, Pradeep. The school, a response to their own need for the perfect pre-school for their child, has been an endeavor close to my heart. I have been personally been involved in planning, designing, and overseeing management at the school, making it an extraordinary provider of early education. Following the success of Wonderland, I set up ELV in Gurgaon, heralding an evolved approach to child development. I firmly believe in positive, hands-on parenting as I believe that a child’s future success begins at home and no school alone can achieve this goal.
