Tell us about yourselfasha sataphy

I consider myself someone who can raise my voice wherever required for a cause, a goal or achieving a personal vision. I believe I am energetic, high spirited with a lot of confidence that I give my father credit for. I have grown up in multiple cities in India and was exposed to the Western world at an early age. As I grew up, I wanted to become an IPS officer like Kiran Bedi and spent half of my school years on the playground excelling in sports like basket ball, running etc. and even represented the state under the age of 14. However my studies were never undermined and I achieved university ranks both in Bachelors and Masters. I started a career in technology in the US in 1999 working in Bank IT Applications and went on later to be groomed as a Technocrat in Sun Microsystems. I moved back to India a few years ago to join CGI and worked in offshore service delivery projects managing large outsourcing accounts and internal systems. Most of my professional experiences in the US were in the healthcare sector which fuelled my passion to do something impactful in this area and eventually led me to launch my startup ‘DocEngage’- a CRM for healthcare (www.docengage.in). We empower clinics and hospitals to measure the care life cycle, build strong relationships with patients, improve patient satisfaction, increase revenue and outcome through a comprehensive set of usable tools.

Tell us about any current projects or initiatives

I cofounded DocEngage along with my spouse Ahi. Our endeavor is to bring back the focus on making each patient interaction more personal and meaningful. We help care providers build strong relationship with their patients. Additionally, we help clinics and care providers analyse consumer behaviour patterns to engage, recommend adequate health services (upsell/cross sell) and measure outcome, which leads to both increase in revenue and improvement of patient satisfaction. We have a powerful practice, clinical management and EMR system that takes care of clinical and business practice. Despite being a startup, we are a fast growing healthcare software company in India.DE-Dark-Logo

What has been your biggest challenge in achieving your success?

The biggest challenge was in trying to understand how Healthcare IT works in India. Sometimes I think having experience in the US and other western countries definitely widens your perspective and helps build a compelling vision but to do business in India, you need a unique mind set and readiness.

Being a bootstrapped company and self sustainable early in the stage of business, we got raised eye brows from customers. We battled the perception that funded companies were more credible and offer greater security. We are proud to state that we have broken this understanding barrier by proving that we can build a great company starting from the ground and being self funded!

The startup life is full of challenges and one swings from hopelessness to joy, but I have learnt that success as an entrepreneur is only determined by believing that it’s going to work and focusing on getting the work done, delivering excellence, expanding business and keeping a sharp eye on revenue. This is a new language for me. However once you have crossed the initial hurdle of a mindset shift, generating money is only a matter of time and it comes automatically.

What has been your greatest achievement personally?

After a lot of reflection, I have finally understood the purpose of my life. I am married to a wonderful man with whom I have two amazing children. I can still run around like an 18 year old as my husband and kids are absolutely proud of what I do and they are my greatest support system for my non-stop career. And I am building something that is valuable for the healthcare eco system in India which gives my immense pride and joy.

If you weren’t doing what you do now, what would you be doing?

I would have been an IPS officer ideally in a city administrative role. I believe the required traits for this profession match my personality. I have a tendency to fight against corruption; I raise my voice given the opportunity and follow certain principles of justice.

Who has been your biggest inspiration?

I can think of three men – my father, my husband Ahi, and recently our prime minister Mr Modi. I was raised by my dad and consider myself a daddy’s girl. He nurtured my outgoing spirit, instilled courage and a strong desire for high performance. Ahi is someone who I can look up to for being self contented doing diverse stuff, with a lot of inner strength and a true partner that empowers women. Mr Modi for his business vision and growth for our country.

What does the future hold for you?

Definitely, I am going to be part of Digital Health Care revolution in India and DocEngage is going to be in an unbeatable position in a year’s time. I am also thinking of mentoring women entrepreneurs in a practical way so that they can get some guidance, which they can apply to their own startups.
