Female Entrepreneur: Anju Arora – Founder of ‘Naari’ Women Wellness Program

Wow, 12,238 of you have read this.

NEW Anju AroraI belong to a conservative business family from Delhi. After graduating in commerce, I started to work with a placement company and acquired some experience in recruiting and interviewing candidates. While working there for two years, I got married and relocated to Hyderabad.

Though Hyderabad was a new city, it was even a new culture for me. The initial few months were a challenge in terms of being able to communicate with people and being able to emotionally connect with them. Before coming to Hyderabad I had planned to take a break for a few months and get settled in my married life but in just a few days I was looking for jobs so I could engage myself in something new. I didn’t even have the patience to wait for some suitable job and joined the then all-the-rage of call centres!

Since working in a call centre was not my cup of tea, I started looking out again in six months and soon found myself working in an HR outsourced team at Deloitte. I worked with Deloitte for seven years and gained experience in different verticals of HR. During these seven years, I was blessed with two wonderful kids. Rithwik is now 9.5 years and Naaisha is 4+ years. After Naaisha was born to me, I managed to work from home for a year and a half, however I felt, kids needed a lot of attention at that time. Hence I took a break and got employed as a full time home maker…

It has been almost three years since I left my job but the zeal of being independent is still very much with me. Over the last one year I found myself influenced by natural living. I have been reading a lot of articles and information about it, have been practicing a lot of things at home and have been preaching to my family and friends…

I never knew that this passion would get me into something that would be so close to my heart and would become, not just my way of living, but even my livelihood. I think people are right when they say, you should do what you love!

Chemicals

The effects of chemicals absorbed in our bodies through ingestion or skin application has been well researched. Hence it is a fact, when we ingest chemicals, the digestive enzymes present in our body work to break these chemicals and flush them out from our bodies. However, when chemicals are applied on our skin, they directly get absorbed in the blood stream without any filtration and start to accumulate in various organs. This fact was enough for me to switch to an organic lifestyle and I also thought that other women also needed to know about this.

I have initiated a Women Wellness Program “Naari” wherein I try to spread awareness about personal hygiene when it comes to our monthly cycles. Using conventional tools to cope with cycles often result in some after effects and some prospective health risks. Via Naari, I share with other women the kind of chemicals we expose ourselves to while using conventional sanitary napkins or liners. I try to make women aware of what kind of potential health risks we may face as a consequence of using them for prolonged times and how we can safeguard ourselves from them. In a module I have designed I also talk about vaginal hygiene which is the most sensitive part of our well-being but often most ignored.

I never knew that this passion would get me into something that would be so close to my heart and would become, not just my way of living, but even my livelihood. I think people are right when they say, you should do what you love!

Along with this, I also promote organic hygiene products: sanitary napkins, panty liners (they are free of harmful chemicals like Dioxin, Rayon, Pesticides and herbicides) and chemical free intimate/ hygiene wash (which does not include SLS or Paraben).

I plan to conduct corporate sessions so I can spread awareness among the working women as they are the ones who often end up ignoring their well-being in an effort to manage all the chores of their daily lives. Besides corporates, women networking forums is another area where I want to focus as we have a lot of women participating in these forums and I can get some valuable thoughts and feedback.
